How to crochet an orange cat - Tangy from Animal Crossing

Hello everyone. It's been a long time since the last time I upload a tutorial video on Youtube I am so busy with my PhD life and don't have time to sit, record and talk through the video. To be honest, the talking part in the tutorial is the part that makes me avoid doing the tutorial. You know after a long intense day of coding and research, the last thing I want to do is talking and narrate the tutorial video.

I decide to change my strategy, I will record the video every time I crochet, and will only narrate the video if I feel like. I can voice over later on the editing process when I feel like I want to do it only. So this is happening to this tutorial video. With the changing way of thinking, I am finally publishing this tutorial video!!

Let me introduce you the character in this tutorial. Her name is "Tangy". She is an orange/tangerine cat character from the game called 'Animal Crossing'. I came across Animal Crossing New Horizon during the start of the lockdown period, and this game is really hooked me in. It's been a while since the last time I have the urge to crochet something and this game just makes me want to crochet again! I decided to start with Tangy because I have her on my island(in the game) and she has a very simple colour scheme. So I think I should start with her.

This is the actual pattern that I used to crochet her up. I would call it version 1 for cat pattern as I have so many places I want to change the pattern.

MATERIALS:

4 ply worsted weight yarn, I used Thai local brand named "Eagle" which similar to the DK yarn.
3.5mm. or E size hook, I am using Japanese Clover hook.

ABBREVIATION
sc- single crochet
sl- slip stitch
ch- chain
st - stitch
inc - increase = 2 sc in same stitch
sc2tog - decrease single crochet
hdc - half double crochet
dc - double crochet
[ ] - repeat instruction in parenthesis for the number of time.
BLO - Back loop only

The pattern is free as the subtitle on the video as always but not going to be showing on this blog anymore. The pdf printed version will be available on Ravelry and Craftsy and a support payment to me. You don't have to pay for this, you can just open the video and follow the pattern through. I will put the time stamp in the comment section so you can easily navigate along with the video.

Because of this pandemic, there is likely a high chance that I cannot work as a Lab demonstrator in the next semester, which means I will have more free time to crochet but less money to spend on food supplies. So if you are happy to purchase the pdf pattern and support me, here are the links ;

The result looks cute on the first grant but when I compare the finished doll with the character in the game, I realise her head is too small. My perfectionist mind is screaming. I really want to fix her but decide to let that away. I can try again with another cat character later.

How to crochet a pen holder

ภาษาไทยด้านล่าง

Hello everyone, hope you are having a great day. I just moved to Edinburgh to start my PhD study. I am not sure how often I can upload the video but I will try my best to upload it at least once a month.

Since I just moving in, many things still not in place yet, so today I come with a video about this easy and simple project that I made for myself. A pen holder from recycling can.

Pattern instruction

Rnd1: 2 ch, 6 sc in the 1st chain, sl :: 6 stitches
Rnd2: 1 ch, inc in next 6 st, sl :: 12 stitches
Rnd3: 1 ch, [sc in next st, inc] 6 times, sl :: 18 stitches
Rnd4: 1 ch, [sc in next 2 st, inc] 6 times, sl :: 24 stitches
Rnd5: 1 ch, [sc in next 3 st, inc] 6 times, sl :: 30 stitches
Rnd6: 1 ch, [sc in next 4 st, inc] 6 times, sl :: 36 stitches
Rnd7: 1 ch, [sc in next 5 st, inc] 6 times, sl :: 42 stitches
Rnd8: 1 ch, [sc in next 6 st, inc] 6 times, sl :: 48 stitches

And I think you can see the trend in the pattern, keep increase until you cover or nearly cover the bottom of the can, then crochet sc in the each stitch the going up and cover the side of the can.

Rnd9 and repeat until it cover the can:
1 ch, sc in each st,  sl :: 48 stitches

But today I am gonna change the color along the way so;
Rnd9 - Rnd12:  1 ch, sc in next 48 st,  sl :: 48 stitches

Change color to green(seeing tip on how to change color seamlessly in the video)
Rnd13 - Rnd14:  1 ch, sc in next 48 st,  sl :: 48 stitches

Change color to pale green
Rnd15 - Rnd17:  1 ch, dc in next 48 st,  sl :: 48 stitches

Change color to green
Rnd18 - Rnd20:  1 ch, sc in next 48 st,  sl :: 48 stitches

Change color to gray
Rnd21 - Rnd24:  1 ch, sc in next 48 st,  sl :: 48 stitches

Cut the yarn and fasten off
And its done!!
